Winterfeldt IP Group Celebrates Our Third Anniversary

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Three years ago, on October 16, 2017, Winterfeldt IP Group opened its doors as an independent specialty law firm. Following being housed in large global law firms for 18 years, I was incredibly excited to bring a new approach to global intellectual property portfolio management to the legal industry. My goal was to deliver top-quality advice on brand protection and related matters through highly customized, concierge-style service, all while exemplifying core values of diversity and inclusion, dedication to pro bono service, and commitment to corporate social responsibility.

The past three years have been an incredible adventure beyond anything I had envisioned, and I am extraordinarily grateful to the fantastic clients and dedicated Winterfeldt IP Group team who have made it all possible. During our first year, we focused largely on transitioning our existing clients to our new platform and to securing and streamlining the best team and systems to service them. In our second year, we focused on building recognition for the Winterfeldt IP Group brand among those who had previously known us under the banners of other law firms, through increased engagement with industry leadership activities and pro bono service.

For our third year, we were primed for a period of dramatic growth when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, causing widespread disruptions to the global business community, as well as to all of our personal and professional lives. Once it became clear that the pandemic would require drastic changes to the ways in which we do business, my first priorities were to ensure that we could continue to service our clients seamlessly, while maintaining the health and safety of our team. Thanks to our investment in cutting-edge technology and nimble workflow processes, we were able to transition to primarily remote work within one business day, and with no interruptions to client service. We then immediately set out to find additional ways to support our clients and colleagues through the crisis, increasing the volume of our publications, launching our monthly webinar series, and establishing a COVID-19 Resource Center on our website to compile information relating to the impact of the pandemic on the intellectual property community. These activities, particularly our webinar series, have also provided wonderful opportunities to remain connected on a personal level to our industry colleagues at a time when in-person conferences and group gatherings are on hold indefinitely.

In addition to providing a robust volume of content on cutting-edge intellectual property matters, in recent months we have also continued to increase our engagement with diversity and inclusion matters. Following an intensive application and review process, we were accepted into the membership of the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF), the premier honor for diverse-owned law firms in the United States. We joined the InterLaw Diversity Forum as a sponsor. For the seventh time - but for the first time as a remote event - I chaired the IP Law Institute, a half-day mini-conference contained within the LGBT Bar’s annual Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair. We launched our quarterly Diversity Speaker Series, a new webinar series focusing on personal voices and stories from diverse members of our legal community, and held our first event in October 2020.

While I am, of course, hoping that our next year will allow for a return to many more of our in-person activities, and that a year from now we are celebrating our fourth anniversary with a grand party, for now, I want to reiterate how deeply, deeply appreciative of I am to all of you who have been a part of the success of Winterfeldt IP Group thus far. Whether as one of our valued team members, a client at a small startup company or a large global brand, an industry colleague, a friend or family member, or even a friendly competitor, I am immensely grateful for your support as we look to 2021 and beyond.

Warmest regards,
