Conversation on Access to WHOIS and Compliance with EU’s GDPR and ICANN Contracts

We hope you can join us for a conversation hosted by the ICANN Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) and Business Constituency to discuss continued access to website ownership data (WHOIS) and compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You may have seen our recent articles about the potential challenges that the GDPR has posed to continued access to WHOIS data, an important function for brand and IP Owners, law enforcement, consumer protection advocates, security firms and more. The ICANN Community has been asked, on an urgent basis, to weigh in on several GDPR compliance models which will place various strictures on information collection, storage and access. Members of the community have provided their own thoughts to ICANN, and ICANN has provided their own independent thoughts. With all of this information out there, and an impending deadline to understand the consequences of GDPR and act accordingly, we have convened this discussion to coordinate our thoughts and advocacy efforts. Please join us on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 9am – 1pm EST at the offices of Perkins Coie in Washington, DC (700 13th Street NW, Suite 600), Brussels (location TBD), or via remote participation (Adobe Connect Audio and Chat Room details to follow). Apologies for the short notice, but ICANN has asked for the IPC and BC to weigh in on the proposed interim GDPR Compliance models by January 26, 2018, so this conversation is timely and urgent!
