In this new article on CircleID, Winterfeldt IP Group Associate Griffin Barnett, along with David McAuley of Verisign, highlight that the Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) has been an effective tool in combating clear-cut cases of cybersquatting and DNS abuse, and that there is no evidence that the URS has been abused by overreaching brand owners. As such, the authors recommend that the URS, which was adopted as a rights protection mechanism for the new generic top-level domain (gTLD) program, be adopted as an ICANN Consensus Policy applicable to all gTLDs.
