Members of the Winterfeldt IP Group team recently attended ICANN77, which took place in Washington, DC from June 12-15, 2023. Key topics of interest to brand owners addressed during ICANN77 included: ICANN's recent leadership change and ongoing search for a permanent CEO; updates on progress on subsequent rounds of new gTLDs (now targeted for 2026); access to WHOIS data, in particular, the ongoing development of the Registration Data Request Service (RDRS), which is due to be launched in late 2023; and ongoing cross-community discussions on domain name system (DNS) abuse.

Please see our full article, published in the World Trademark Review, for a detailed analysis of these issues and key takeaways, or feel free to reach out to us at internet@winterfeldt.law if you would like to discuss the benefits of ICANN engagement and how these issues may impact your brands and brand protection priorities.
